Townsville has just beat Margaret River in the Facebook voting blitz for hosting the Social Media Tourism Symposium.
The Social Media Tourism Symposium is a conference for tourism professionals looking to share ideas, network and discover opportunities in social media for destination marketing.
Margaret River was well in the running for securing this conference that would deliver the winning town with 7,000 tweets from tourism marketing professionals about the region and bring in 250 delegates to the region.
After making it through the preliminary round of Facebook voting against several Australian towns, Margaret River went neck and neck with Townsville.
Votes were flying in right up until the voting closed at 9pm on 25.02.13.
There was just over 100 points the difference with Margaret River reaching over 1500 votes and Townsville reach over 1600 votes.
It was certainly an excellent effort to make it this far! Go Margaret River!
