The President of the Margaret River Chamber of Commerce and Industry greatly thanks the 255 Supporters of the Margaret River NBN Petition “Support the need for a Margaret River rollout of NBN Fibre to the Node before June 2016“ and the 113 comments answering why they are supporting the need for NBN Fibre in Margaret River.
The MRCCI, businesses and residents will be sending an extremely clear message to the State and Federal Governments, NBN Co and Telstra that they are failing our region and compromising our economic growth due to the current substandard telecommunications infrastructure.
The Federal Government and NBN Co think that they can placate the residents of Augusta-Margaret River Shire with fixed wireless internet that will only serve 10% of the current population and get away with claiming they are delivering the NBN to the Margaret River region.
Do you remember the promise of “super fast internet” for All Australians? Well it is not “super fast internet” until Fibre is laid and available to the public at affordable prices.
NBN Fibre and the so-called Multi-Technology Mix is on the current rollout for Busselton and Dunsborough. Margaret River residents are frustrated and wondering why it isn’t being delivered here because according to them, they need it. But don’t take our word for it, take the following 113 reasons from the MRCCI online petition.
One can only assume that the decision makers, sitting in their NBN enabled offices and homes in the Australian capitals, know better than we do about the state of our internet.
113 Reasons Why Margaret River Needs NBN Fibre
I have 2 businesses, plus undertake post graduate study – internet services often drop out interrupting/preventing business activities |
Having fibre to Margaret River will allow our businesses to compete on a level playing field with businesses located in cities, allow our students to learn and use any software instead of being limited to what their internet connection can handle. It will give the Margaret River community the opportunity that it deserves. |
Margaret River is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Visitors to our accommodation often comment/complain about how slow the internet is here. Why should we be left with a substandard network when businesses and individuals need to stay competitive. This goes further afield than the township of Margaret River. A large number of businesses in the region are run from farms and properties outside of town and high speed internet is needed there as well. |
I cant get ADSL in Cowaramup, I am forced to pay for Mobile broardband – this is ridiculous!! |
Faster Internet is needed to make business more viable in Margaret River. |
I run a business from which will benefit of fast internet |
It is a major requirement for us to continue being a world class tourist destination. |
I live in Brookfield and have been unable to get acceptable wireless Internet for over 1.5 years now! We have to use an Internet dangle which only gives us 10 gb a month. This is unacceptable in this day and age. |
I live in Margaret river and I can’t even get broadband at home because there aren’t enough ports available, I own a business that can’t get a decent connection and have to use 3G. I’ve had numerous customers ask why I’m the only franchise of my brand not offering free wifi. We need the NBN |
Working from a rural office in the Margaret River region is impossible. We live less then 8km from the town centre and do not have enough internet capacity to send emails, upload files and do general business communication on a regar basis. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t! |
I was granted a business NV BN Satellite dish on myfarm in Dec 2013m but lkost it when I did not have the service provider connect it within ten days. I applied again this year to be told the conditions had changed and I was not entitled to a satellite dish. When I tiold tghem thgat contrary to Telstra reports I did not have mov bile coverage on my property, they simply laughed. I have bought a G2 router from Telstra for a price, and put it up with an antenna, but guess what – there is no mobile coverage on mymproperty. It should be easier with NBNFibre for those in toen. But it appears it wasn’t meant to be easy for anyone! |
I do not have reliable access to broadband, and will likely have to relocate to achieve this |
NBN is critical for my career in IT. It will bring massive opportunities to the town, such as the ability to run a cost efficient call centre. |
Working from home makes it VITAL that I have a reliable & fast internet service. |

Business, home, study – give us a break please! |
To support the need for a rollout of nbn fibre to the node in Margaret river |
I need more than 25g – biggest plan telstra can offer me and it costs $160/month, no other options – 2km down the road they have ADSL at 500g for $130 – discrimination makes it hard to compete! |
This is pathetic how long the tourism centre of WA cannot get NBN. You can’t even get internet/phone connection at Leeuwin estate!!! |
i have to pay a bomb for really poor internet. its impossible to run our business only 4 kms from town. |
I am a software developer in Margaret River paying telstra for 24Mb connection and getting 0.7Mb .. These are speeds acceptable in the previous century. |
I can’t even get adsl – no more available connections in Brookfield – ludicrous in this century!!! |
It’s a fair and acceptable request. |
Margaret River needs better internet. My property has to use mobile broadband because there is no other service available. Very bad for our business we can’t even compete with businesses in the town area. we have a resort |
internet in this Shire is very poor which makes it hard for business |
I want the speed of NBN. The local Node provides ADSL and is overloaded at peak times where we experience poor ADSL performance. Margaret River is a showcase of WA and Australia. We need to show the world we are first world. |
I run a tourism business in Margaret River & it is vital for us, as well as our visitors, to have a fast reliable service. |
My property in Margaret River is considered by Telstra to have good wifi reception but it doesn’t it has very poor wifi reception. |
Our accommodation business desperately needs faster WIFI to keep up with the expectations of international travellers. |
We are being economically disadvantaged because of a lack of infrastructure around internet services. |
NBN Fibre is vital to the future growth of Margaret River. |
I am signing because I think it is vitally important for the Margaret RIver / Augusta area to have NBN Fibre as soon as possible |
As such an important tourist region and business town of the South West of WA NBN is vital for business to keep abreast of technology to keep us in the forefront of tourism |
WE need this for safety in the region in times of emergency |
I’m living in Margaret River and we own our own business. We can not function without a fast internet connection in this area! |
we need better internet service in our region to be able to run our business’s more effectively |
Our internet is very slow – which makes it extremely difficult to run our business at times. |
All business needs access to reliable and fast internet connections to be able to grow, prosper and lift the whole area. |

My business has one of the slowest speeds not even seen in remote australia. I rely on Internet for every aspect of my business, from booking engines to guest wifi which I pay a lot of money for. Continual slow speeds continually effects my business and its representation |
The capes is a valuable asset to the WA, Australia and the world and needs to be connected. World class businesses are struggling with dial up speeds because we are out of sight out of mind. Regional Australia could be the powerhouse of eCommerce and in this region, people growing and creating foods would be able to connect more effectively to a local, regional and national audience. |
I wish to conduct a business from our home in Margaret River, and the internet speeds make it difficult. |
internet speeds hinder the operation of my small business. Ie Internet banking, importing data etc. it’s a nightmare |
The liberals have stolen our future with an archaic system because of abbott being a semi-retarded dinosaur. |
Margaret River has been left out of the NBN rollout; we are trying to run a small business with ONE ISP OPTION, wireless broadband ONLY OPTION…. Not good enough in the 21st century in Australia |
I run a business that needs fast, reliable internet that Margaret River does not have at the moment. |
so many of us are unable to get a adsl connection it , I have had to resort to wireless broad band on the cell network which is slow and expensive |
the amount of tax we pay in australia should go to worthwhile infrastructure like NBN, instead of proping up welfare cheats, and bludgers , south mandurah could also do with NBN, , more govt red tape and bullshit |
I want MR to have a decent internet infrastructure |
Australia is so behind technology wise by the time we will get NBN there will be another upgrade. |
My business needs a fast and stable internet |
Of the pathetic current service we receive from Telstra. No mobile phone cover and very poor wifi. |
I have desperate need of high speed internet connection |
Australia is so far behind the rest of the world – and it seems to be an active choice nowadays to remain in the dark ages. The tyranny of isolation is not THAT difficult to over come in 2015. |
We need to keep up with technology. And the IT boom is our next opportunity to stay relevant. |
i believe margs needs this |
Something has to be done as we have people being told there is a 2 year waiting list for broadband |
im sick of our AMAZING region being left in the dark ages in terms of overpriced/slow/unreliable Internet. It should be happening in this day and age! Get it changed asap for our children’s sake. |
its long overdue |

im sick of my crap Internet connection constantly dropping out. I demand decent internet, now. |
Constantly slow internet frustrates the efficient running of a country business |
NBN should be rolled out across the major centers of south west Australia as both download adn upload capacity is vital to our growing business community. I currently operate on speeds as low as 11kbs |
Our business needs better speed in order to cope with the demands and reliability our customers require. |
I would like faster internet in Margaret River, especially for business. |
This region needs the NBN. |
I manage a business in Margaret River and am continually frustrated by the slow and intermittent internet connections in the area. |
I run a small business and also work part time in the hospitality industry. For our region to continue to grow it is vital we have reliable, fast internet. This will benefit everyone in the community not just business but other areas such as health care and education. |
Support the cause. |
We are supposed to be one of the worlds most popular tourist destinations, yet we don’t even have reliable broadband access! Slow or no internet connection means that our local businesses, as well as schools and health services, can’t remain competitive or able to keep up with the expectations of our community. |
I want world class Internet – not the current, disgraceful 44th position! |
I am signing because I am frustrated with slow connections that are crippling business in this community. |
It’s woeful that a town such as Margaret River doesn’t get the NBN FTTN. |
I want to have an excellent broadband service .. not just a good one!! |
I am signing because I believe Margaret River’s thriving economy deserves NBN to continue growth. |
I live in the community and need good internet access for business. |
Im signing because I am a resident of Margaret River and our children deserve the best available network, and we need it for work. |
I cannot get broadband network only have satellite and speed is very slow. |
We cannot get NBN, telstra say not enough people in the area to make it worth while, speed very slow with satellite and restricted, not good for business. |
We only have satellite and speed very slow and restricted, I find this very frustrating and so does my brother when he comes down from Perth where the speed is so much faster. |
As a business owner who liases with client by email, this is crucial to the ongoing growth and success of my business. 90% of our clients are from interstate or are internationals who travel to this area to get married. As a supplier to the wedding industry being able to contact clients in a timely manner and send them large images is very important. We struggle with this at the moment and I hate to think what it will be like in the future. |
It needs to happen! |
I believe that given the popularity and tourism draw of the Margaret River region it is essential that international visitors have access to fast, reliable internet. It just makes sense. |
I NEED FUNCTIONAL INTERNET |
We need NBN in Margaret River |
I’m a student and expectant mother and need to be able to study from home. |
because margaret river needs your surpport , |
Margaret River needs this to support tourism and the natural progression of technology expectations |
Fed up with slow, interrupted internet service. |
Good quality NBN is very important to our community. |
I own an art gallery in Yallingup and my business is disadvantaged by not having access to Broadband. |
As someone works remotely in media, the availability of fast, reliable access is very important. Currently this isn’t the case. |
Fast broadband is essential if this region is to have any kind of entrepreneurial future |
I run a business in Yallingup and am being disadvantaged by not having access to Broadband. |
The cost of our internet is ridiculous and really poor service in comparison to what the city gets |
im there most weekends and current network is not very good |
I live in the area |
I run an Internet based business in margaret river and the speed is embarrassing |
Regional Australia shouldn’t be forgotten for working professionals who need access to efficient internet speeds on point. |
It’s 2015 ….get with the programme . |
Because Margaret River is one of our South Wests gems and it needs to more forward with technologies help as much as any other great tourist location does, why should such a great place be left behind |
im signing because Margaret River is a world class destination that requires nbn asap to enhance its positioning as a desiresble and modern destination and economic driver for the region / state. |
I believe margs needs it |
Margaret River needs proper broadband. |
We need to catch up with the rest of the world . |
internet is vital for business today. Everybody needs access to it at speeds which are as fast as they can be |
Current internet network is poor |
It is an absolute necessity for business these days. And it should come to Cowaramup too! |
The exchange at Margaret River is overloaded and there are no more ADSL 2 connections left. |
I’m signing because I run a business in Margaret River and clients/customers are local, state, national & International. The Internet is one of, if not my main tool and fast, clear communication (including video conferencing) has huge benefits and time savings being based in a remote location. |
moving to Margaret River |
I am frustrated by expensive data on a mobile broadband connection….can’t download much, reduces access to information, services and entertainment…all because I live out of town…?! |
I believe it’s appalling that WA’s premier Tourism are is being once again totally overlooked in regards to technology |
