One of our newest MRCCI members, Mixtape Creative is owned and managed by Darren McCagh (Farmhouse Films) and Mark Boskell (Elements Margaret River). It is a unique, affordable shared working space located on Station Road, Margaret River, for creative professionals.
A home to Photographers, Filmmakers, Designers & more, Mixtape has space for 10 full-time professional desks, as well as communal areas for workshops, meetings & hot-desking.
The MRCCI recently spoke to Mark about the co-working space and how Mixtape Creative is responding to the challenges of the current COVID-19 situation on the creative industries, and the opportunities they also present:
“The space was borne out of a desire to step up our individual creative practices from the home office to a collaborative environment. We share the space with a range of diverse creative professionals, all running their own individual businesses.
“Since opening in 2014, the highlight for us at Mixtape Creative has been sharing the space with a diverse range of creatives, and the potential collaboration that comes from meeting and working with new people. Working as a creative practitioner can often be a solo exercise attempted amongst the many distractions of the home office.
“Coming to work at Mixtape changes the creative dynamic and opens up all sorts of possibilities. Since it’s inception, Mixtape Creative has hosted more than 20 individual businesses including Filmmakers, Photographers, Web Designers, Graphic Designers, Copywriters, Software Developers, Event Managers and Journalists.
“Needless to say this is a very unusual year. The creative industries have been hit hard, and several of our residents have had to take leave of their space to ride out the storm. However, we are feeling positive that business will return to usual and that the break in normal proceedings will generate exciting new possibilities.
“Mixtape is set up ideally to work within current Co-Vid 19 guidelines. We are a large space in which each working area is generously proportioned and well distanced from your nearest neighbour. In the year ahead we aim to refine the space and tailor to our co-workers needs, and welcome some new faces into the mix!
“We will be working hard to increase our profile so that people understand our core business: firstly, as a co-working space offering a safe environment for creative professionals to work; and and secondly, to promote the collective of creative practices on offer within the space.”
