Last year the Chamber submitted an objection to the Coles & Woolworths Liquor Store license applications as a result of survey responses from its membership.

From the responses to the MRCCI survey it was found that 87% of local businesses who are members of the Margaret River of Commerce & Industry object to the granting of a liquor licence to Woolworths and Coles in Margaret River. This outcome was the result of 45% of members’ responding to the survey – the highest response rate to any survey undertaken by the Chamber.

The grounds of the objection were as follows:
– That the grant of the application is not in the public interest of the Margaret River community.
– That if the application were granted the amenity of the Margaret River region would be lessened.

The Chamber executive committee has elected to not take further action on top of the objections submitted last year.
