Wine maker and owner Robert Gherardi and his wife Kellie named their boutique winery after the three places that have influenced Rob’s wine making career so far. Margaret River, where Rob began his winemaking journey with Moss Wood and Cullens. Barolo, Italy where the Gherardis and their two young daughters lived and worked with leading winemakers Elio Altare and Conterno Fantino for a number of vintages, and Valtellina, the small town near Lake Como where all of Rob’s grandparents hail from.
The philosophy behind his wines and driving his decisions for them is based upon an ultra-traditional winemaking model. He aims to produce the wines utilising old world vineyard and winemaking techniques which he believes allows for their own individual voices to be heard most clearly, not to be the bearers of a heavy winery footprint.
Mr Barval’s cellar door is located at 7087 Caves Rd, Redgate and is open 11am – 5pm 7 days a week, from November till they sell out of wine, usually around June each year!
