The survey results will be used to assist the government to provide effective, targeted support to regional businesses across the state. In particular, the information will underpin decisions on funding priorities for the Royalties for Regions program. The department plans to run this survey every three years to track changes over time, and maintain an up-to-date picture of regional businesses.

Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary and all responses will be anonymous and confidential.
The Department of Regional Development will survey regional businesses to access information on the views, experiences and intentions of business owners and managers across the State. It is crucial that we get a large number of regional business participating as this is the only way we can ensure the results are balanced and a true picture as to what is happening in regional business communities.
The survey will ask businesses to provide their views on:
· current business conditions and future business prospects
· the advantages and disadvantages associated with running a regional business
· use of web based platforms and social media
· workforce requirements, and
· whether they intend to remain in the regions and succession planning.
