Artists interested in creating designs for banners which will decorate the main street of Margaret River are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

The banners, which will attach to light poles on Bussell Highway, are intended to celebrate various aspects of the region including industry, environment, lifestyle and culture.

Up to $1,000 per design is on offer to artists to create designs on the themes including:

  • Christmas and Easter
  • The seasons (including concepts such as seed sewing, harvest, whale migration, etc
  • Iconic cultural activities (surfing, hiking, farmers markets, etc)
  • Aboriginal culture
  • First settlers

The several sets of banners will be selected to rotate throughout the year to tell the story of the things we value in our shire, draw attention to local attractions and celebrate festive times of the year,” he said.

Expressions of Interest are to be delivered or emailed to the Shire by 4pm on Friday 18 October 2013 with the view that the first banner set will be erected before Christmas.

Public Art Selection Panel, comprising local relevant groups and individuals, will be appointed by the Shire to help determine which designs will be commissioned.
